KAMALA IS EVERY GIRL’S VICE
When Kamala Harris became Vice President, Raytheon wanted to pay tribute. Since Raytheon prides itself on being a company where women can break barriers and become leaders in areospace and defense, they asked us to make a commercial in her honor. Neil Armstrong’s “One small step for man” quote seemed a good place to start. It’s a pleasure to work with companies that use their advertising budgets to promote things that really matter. Thank you Raytheon and Doremus for having me work on this campaign with Josh Locker and Paul Hirsch.

Raytheon is dedicated to creating equal opportunity for all. When Joe Biden and Kamala Harris won the 2020 election, Raytheon wanted to enshrine the moment and thank Kamala Harris for inspiring girls everywhere. Josh Denberg is a freelance copywriter in San Francisco who has worked on Raytheon campaigns before. When this assignment came down, the challenge was how to create something inspiring without actually using footage of Kamala.

They loved it. No selling was needed. No pressure. No anything. They were fully engaged and onboard. Doremus was the agency. Josh Denberg was the freelance copywriter on the project and the writer has a quiet role after the idea is bought. The edit proved to be somewhat difficult because finding the right footage to tell the story was difficult. And the time and unyielding dealine meant the edit had to be quick.

No. We never met Kamala or anyone on her team. But the work will always hold a special place.
